For more than 10 years, Faren Brewer has been supporting people through Behaviour Support.
Faren began her career in the disability sector as a support worker, where she later took up a secondment opportunity within a behaviour support team. Witnessing the meaningful impact of behaviour support on the lives of individuals accessing these services sparked a deep passion for the field and shaped the direction of her professional journey.
Since then, Faren has supported individuals and fellow practitioners through the evolving landscape of the sector, particularly during the significant transition from ADHC to the NDIS in 2013.
“Behaviour Support is a dynamic, evidence-based practice that focuses on understanding each person’s strengths, preferences, and lived experiences, and works collaboratively to support meaningful goals that enhance quality of life,” she said.
“Rather than focusing on ‘fixing’ behaviour, Positive Behaviour Support aims to create supportive environments and relationships that empower people to thrive.”
Every day, she sees the impact Positive Behaviour Support can have.
“The wonderful thing about Behaviour Support is that success looks different to everyone,” she said.
“Recently, one of our practitioners was able to support a team in removing the restrictive practices that were used as part of the participants’ supports, resulting in the client having more autonomy in their life.”
Faren encourages people who are interested to get in touch and see what is possible for them.
“If you’re considering Behaviour Support, please don’t hesitate to reach out,” she said.
“A simple conversation can be the first step toward finding the right strategies and supports for you or someone you care for.”

As human beings, it’s in our nature to worry – it’s our brain’s way of keeping us safe and preparing us for what might lie ahead.
