Amy Barnes
Amy Barnes has a Master of Social Work, a Bachelor of Social Science, a Diploma of Education (Primary) and a Diploma of Community Services. She is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW) and has a membership with the AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers).
Amy offers a person centred, holistic and humanistic approach that allows people to feel seen and heard. Her practice is trauma informed, anti-oppressive and attachment based, utilising a range of therapies that include but are not limited to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Gottman Therapy.
Some of her career highlights have been working as a High School Counsellor and Supervisor of school wellbeing staff, working as a Counsellor for CanTeen (providing therapy to young people and their families living with cancer) and working in private practice.
Amy provides counselling for children (5 and older), adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Amy is a ‘Circle of Security’ parenting facilitator who incorporates aware and attached parenting practices into her work. When she supports children and parents/carers her work is gentle, playful, and creative.
Amy takes the time to really understand your world. She is dedicated to creating a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship that promotes self-compassion, self- awareness, empowerment, and growth. She will help you to identify what’s at the core of your struggle, and helps you strengthen your internal and external resources, giving you an opportunity to process, heal, accept, and grow.
